Planning for the future and creating the legacy you wish to leave is one of the most meaningful ways to ensure that South Kent School continues to shape students for generations to come. A gift in your will or living trust, known as a bequest, can help guarantee that the values, traditions, and transformative experiences you cherish at South Kent will endure well into the School’s next century.
Your bequest may be a specific dollar amount, a percentage of your estate, or the remainder after all other provisions are made. However you choose to structure your gift, you will be making a lasting investment in the people, programs, and place that define South Kent.

Suggested Bequest Language
Below is sample language to use when drafting your bequest to South Kent School.
For an unrestricted gift that allows South Kent to determine how best to use the funds based on the School’s most pressing needs, you may use the following language for your will and/or trust:
“I give to South Kent School, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 40 Bulls Bridge Road, South Kent, CT 06785, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property] for its unrestricted charitable use and purpose.”
To designate your gift for a specific purpose:
“I give to South Kent School, a nonprofit corporation currently located at 40 Bulls Bridge Road, South Kent, CT 06785, or its successor thereto, _________ [written amount or percentage of the estate or description of property]. This gift should be used for (state purpose) if and so long as South Kent School determines that the need exists. If South Kent School determines at the outset or at a later time that the need does not exist, no longer exists, or it is not possible (or prudent) to administer my gift as originally intended, then South Kent School may, in its sole and uncontrolled discretion, direct the use of my bequest for a purpose as closely related as possible to that stated above.”
If you have named South Kent School in your will or trust, please let us know so we can ensure your gift is used according to your wishes. Notifying us of your plans will also help the School plan for the thoughtful use of your future gift. If you prefer to remain anonymous, we will keep your name and gift in strict confidence.
Whenever possible, please try to provide the School with an approximate dollar amount of your planned gift at the time the bequest is made. This helps us better plan for the future.
