How Do We Use Your Gifts?
Purposefully Investing in People, Program, and Place at South Kent School
South Kent School’s mission has endured for more than a century because of one simple truth: when you invest in the people, programs, and places that define our community, you transform lives.
Through term scholarships and targeted funding opportunities, donors can make an immediate impact in areas most critical to sustaining excellence: access for students, support for faculty, and innovative programming and facilities that prepare boys for life beyond South Kent.
People: Students & Employees
Student Access—Term Scholarships
At South Kent, we strive to ensure that financial need never stands in the way of a boy’s education. The cost to educate each student now exceeds full tuition, even as we work to keep tuition competitive and accessible. Term scholarships bridge this gap, making South Kent accessible for mission-appropriate boys.
- Full-Term Scholarship: $75,000/year
- Half-Term Scholarship: $40,000/year
- Partial-Term Scholarship: $25,000/year (minimum)
- Multi-Year Commitments (3 to 4 years) provide continuity and stability for students and the School.
Endowed Scholarships ($1M+) secure access for generations to come.
Employee Excellence—Retention & Development
Attracting and retaining employees who view teaching as both a profession and a way of life is vital. In today’s competitive market, South Kent must offer salaries, benefits, and professional growth opportunities that reflect the significance of their work.
- Department Chair Support: $50,000/year (3 to 4 year commitment, $150K minimum)
- Professional Development Fund: $25,000
By investing in faculty, donors ensure that students are mentored by dedicated adults who embody the School’s values inside and outside the classroom.
Program: Innovation & Tradition
To be the best small all-boys’ boarding school, educating boys for the 21st century, South Kent must balance traditional academic foundations with forward-leaning, real-world programming. Our students need both critical literacies (writing, civics, public speaking, leadership) and future literacies (entrepreneurship, finance, environmental stewardship, innovation, and life skills).
Signature initiatives include:
- Future Literacies: $25K–$50K per year
- North Campus Programming: $25K–$50K per year (living classroom, entrepreneurship, sustainability)
Programmatic term funding creates an immediate difference for students while preparing them for lives of purpose and leadership.
Place: Campus & Facilities
South Kent never intends to join the “arms race” of flashy boarding school campuses—but we must provide a safe, modern, and mission-appropriate environment where our students and faculty can live, learn, and thrive.
Current opportunities include:
- Multi-Purpose Field House & Community Gathering Facility—a central hub for athletics, events, and whole-school community life.
- Alumni House with Tech-Free Reading Room—flexible space for students, parents, and alumni gatherings.
- Faculty Housing—ensuring teachers live on campus, strengthening mentorship and community.
- Updated Classrooms & Learning Spaces—future-ready technology and secure facilities to meet the needs of today’s families.
Your Impact
- People: Scholarships ensure access for students and stability for Hillside employees.
- Program: Forward-leaning, balanced programming prepares boys for modern challenges.
- Place: Upgraded facilities and housing sustain the living-learning environment central to South Kent’s identity.
Every investment, whether for one year, four years, or in perpetuity, strengthens South Kent today and builds the foundation for generations to come.
