Peter and Dana Hopper Make South Kent Beneficiary of Unrestricted Gift in Their Wills

Peter Hopper ’82 Peter Hopper ’82 has deep appreciation for all that South Kent gave him—namely, the foundation for a successful education, career, and life. That’s why he and his wife Dana have named South Kent as the beneficiary of a bequest in their wills.

Peter describes South Kent as one of the most impactful experiences of his life. “South Kent opened up my world—through academics, athletics, friendships, and mentors,” he says. “Everything I’ve accomplished since, from business success to family life, I trace back to the foundation built here.”

A love for hockey helped direct Peter to attend South Kent, and, as a student, he was heavily involved in several sports—including football, hockey, and tennis. He recalls fondly helping to organize work in the dining hall, getting to know “Big Bill” and “Little Billy” along the way. Since graduating, Peter has remained closely involved with South Kent, serving as a Class Agent and a member of the Board of Trustees.

For Peter, his and Dana’s planned gift is about giving South Kent the strength and flexibility it requires for the future. “Needs change year to year,” he says. “In the past, gifts kept the lights on; today, they support faculty compensation, housing, classroom upgrades, and long-term endowment growth. Whatever the needs, I trust the administration and Board to use this gift to strengthen the School’s future.”

Peter encourages other alumni to think about the impact South Kent had on their lives and join him in making an unrestricted planned gift to their alma mater.

“Think about the impact South Kent had on your life,” he says. “If it was anything like mine, then supporting South Kent is one of the most meaningful things you can do. The values and skills South Kent instills in boys as they grow into men are exactly what our society needs. Supporting that mission ensures the next generation has the same life-changing opportunity we did.”
