Stephen Nahley’s Bequest to Help South Kent Continue Shaping Young Lives

Stephen Nahley ‘86Stephen Nahley ‘86 grew up with South Kent School as part of his world. “My father had been coaching basketball there since the late 1970s,” he says. “When it was time for high school, the choice was easy. South Kent felt familiar and full of possibility from the start.”

To help South Kent continue shaping boys into strong, ethical young men, Stephen has included a bequest in his will to benefit the School. “I believe it’s a simple and powerful way to make a lasting impact,” he says. “The School’s trinity of values, simplicity of life, self-reliance, and directness of purpose, are not just words to me. They’ve shaped my life.”

As a student, Stephen was deeply involved in all aspects of campus life, serving as class president his freshman year and playing varsity football, basketball, and crew. He also participated in theater, student government, the yearbook committee, and nearly every extracurricular opportunity available. “You didn’t specialize, you did it all,” he says. “That immersion was one of the most valuable parts of the experience.”

During college Stephen stayed connected to South Kent, returning during winter terms to help coach basketball and teach English as a second language. “I’ve attended reunions regularly and have always supported the School financially,” he says. “South Kent is my primary philanthropic priority because I understand its needs and believe deeply in what it offers.”

Stephen hopes others will join him in making a planned gift to support South Kent’s future.

“Leaving something in your estate is the very definition of legacy,” he concludes. “It’s a way to honor the role the School played in your life and ensure it continues to serve future generations. If you want to make a meaningful impact, this is one of the best ways to do it.”
